Bowling Ball Beach

One item on my to do list during a recent trip to northern California was to go to Bowling Ball Beach which is part of Schooner Gulch State Beach in Mendocino County. I failed to realize the only time you can see the “bowling balls” are during low tide. Of course we were there as the tide was rolling in. I was not able to get the shot I had planned but the beach was beautiful none the less. If we had waited much longer we would not have been able to get to these rocks either. You have to hike to the far end of the beach and go around the cliff to find these rocks. As we were making our way back we had to time our steps with the incoming tide so we did not get swept away!

    1. We made reservations about 3 months in advance and pretty much everything was already booked. We ended up staying in Fort Bragg at a small motel. There are a number of great looking B&Bs in Mendocino County and some nice looking but expensive hotels along route 1. So you have your pick of pricey along the water or no thrills motels in the Fort Bragg area.
